Chapter 35: Suffering in Silence, the Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law Relationship

Chapter 35: Suffering in Silence, the Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law Relationship

Ji Yan stared in shock at the Disheveled Man Supernatural Entity with its shattered skull. He turned to look at the hunched figure of the Grandmother and couldn’t help but take a deep breath. Why was she here?

"Grandmother, what are you doing here?"

The Grandmother didn’t answer. Beneath her silver-white hair, her face appeared gentle and kind, her narrowed eyes shifting to the wall behind Ji Yan.

The wall loosened, and Ji Yan, who had been nearly swallowed by it, was pushed out. The Cement-Covered Entity immediately chose to flee!

The Grandmother chuckled softly, her fingers—marked by the passage of time—holding a silver needle. With a light flick against the wall, the solid surface split open like cloth the next second. Her palm was wrapped in fine, nearly invisible threads, tugging through the air.

As the silver threads seeped deep into the wall, the Cement-Covered Entity hiding within was effortlessly dragged out.

It was a naked entity entirely covered in cement, now crouching on the ground in panic, trembling as it looked at the Grandmother. "Granny Liu, I didn’t know he was your grandson! If I had known, I would never have dared to touch him!"

"It was all Liu the Fatty’s idea! Spare me, and I swear I’ll take good care of your grandson whenever he passes through the hallway!"

The Grandmother only laughed hoarsely. "You knew he was my grandson. You just didn’t expect me to step outside."

"Someone else put you up to this. You have one chance to name them."

Her hands clasped behind her hunched back, she spoke softly, yet her words terrified the Cement-Covered Entity into submission.

Ji Yan suddenly spoke up. "Grandmother, no need to interrogate him. I know who it is."

"Good."

Without further questions, the Grandmother lightly pinched the air with her fingertips.

A bloody line split open on the Cement-Covered Entity’s forehead, and in the next moment, its entire body was peeled apart like an orange rind.

The skinned corpse rolled into the hallway.

The Grandmother picked up the bloody hide and gave a slight nod. "The quality is passable. It’ll do for making a doll for my dear granddaughter."

As she spoke, she stuffed the gory skin into a cloth pouch hanging at her waist.

Ji Yan watched from behind, cold sweat trickling down his back.

Damn, our Grandmother is terrifyingly strong!

Wait—why did she leave Room 404?

Logically, with the current favorability barely halfway filled, the Grandmother Supernatural Entity shouldn’t have gone out of her way to save him.

"Grandmother, why did you come out?"

The Grandmother tightened the pouch’s opening and held it in her hand, gazing at Ji Yan with a slow smile. "Old people can’t sleep well at night. I came out for some fresh air."

"I planned to feed the stray cats downstairs, but I didn’t expect to find my grandson being bullied."

Ji Yan glanced at the two supernatural corpses with concern. "Now that they’re dead, will there be any trouble?"

"These two were just parasitic bugs in the apartment. Squashing them changes nothing."

Parasitic—Ji Yan had heard Liu Yitong mention it before.

These kinds of supernatural entities didn’t own their own rooms. They could only cling to the corners of the apartment like parasites by doing odd jobs for the Landlord, offering meager value in exchange.

Their status was low, even more pitiful than many Players.

Normally, these parasitic entities only dared to scare Players into handing over their equipment, rarely threatening their lives—mostly out of fear of retaliation from the Players’ supernatural families.

But these two entities had been intent on killing Ji Yan from the start.

This is a bit suspicious.

"You know who instigated them?" the Grandmother Supernatural Entity asked.

"Someone named Long Yuan."

The Hidden Information that had just popped up had already given Ji Yan the answer.

The Grandmother let out an "Oh," her wrinkled face shifting slightly.

"You know him?"

"The beloved grandson of the Wang family in Room 703. That whole family treats him like a treasure."

"But this old woman doesn’t like that kid—too cunning."

The Grandmother Supernatural Entity spoke slowly.

Her words also implied that Long Yuan had never bothered to "befriend" his own grandmother.

Though she knew Long Yuan was behind it, the Grandmother only said she disliked him and showed no intention of standing up for Ji Yan or settling the score.

Clearly, she didn’t want to provoke the supernatural entities on the 7th Floor either...

Ji Yan found that reasonable.

After all, the Grandmother was, in the end, just a supernatural being living on the 4th Floor. Going up against those on the 7th Floor was probably beyond her—saving him was already more than enough...

Still, Ji Yan was puzzled. Just because he’d exchanged a few sharp words with this guy, Long Yuan had gone to such lengths to try and kill him.

That pettiness was on par with Dong Chu!

Ji Yan really didn’t want to swallow this injustice, but considering Long Yuan’s maxed-out gear and experience, he ultimately let it go.

"Go back and rest. You’ve had a long night."

"When that woman comes for you tomorrow, be careful. None of them have good intentions."

After that warning, the Grandmother Supernatural Entity continued downstairs.

Ji Yan knew "that woman" referred to the Mother Supernatural Entity. He figured this was a heads-up about who would assign the driver’s mission tomorrow.

"Bad mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships really are universal, huh."

Muttering to himself, Ji Yan also returned to Room 404.

......

Meanwhile.

Long Yuan had returned to his own room.

His expression was equally dark as he stared at the broken Rusted Hatchet in his hand, his eyes filled with hatred for Ji Yan.

Dealing with the Father Supernatural Entity from Room 804 had worn him out and left him fuming.

"What a clever little trick. I’ll remember you, Ji Yan!"

......

Morning.

A hazy white mist hung in the air.

Ji Yan woke up on time, though with less than three hours of sleep, his condition was far from ideal.

By the time he stepped out of his room, Liu Yitong was already eating breakfast at the table.

Even in the Eerie World, Liu Yitong gave off the vibe of a disciplined office worker—clocking in, clocking out, waking up on schedule, utterly unfazed.

"Went out again last night? Your face says it all." Liu Yitong had already mastered the art of answering her own questions.

Ji Yan stayed silent. The way Liu Yitong looked at him was like she was seeing a coworker who’d taken overtime to the extreme—except he hadn’t chosen to start this trend.

Just as the Grandmother had said last night, right on schedule, the Mother’s summons came from inside the room.

"The Mother is the most reasonable of the three supernatural entities, and she already has a soft spot for you, so..."

Liu Yitong instinctively tried to comfort Ji Yan, but halfway through, she suddenly realized his living conditions were now far better than hers. A pang of bitterness silenced her.

After knocking twice, Ji Yan pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The room was tidy and carried a quiet, serene atmosphere.

The Mother leaned against the bay window, gazing at the gloomy world outside before turning to look at Ji Yan with a gentle smile. "Did the flashlight I gave you last night come in handy?"

Ji Yan nodded. "It was very dark upstairs. Thanks to your flashlight."

"Taking care of my child is only natural, especially since you’ve done so much for this family."

The Mother’s hair was elegantly coiled, her face dignified and graceful, her smile serene. "When you killed that drunken bastard of a father, I knew you were the most sensible one."

"If you go and kill your Grandmother next, I’ll cherish only you from now on."

Ji Yan: "..."

These two—mother-in-law and daughter-in-law—even had the same script.

Both were trying to manipulate him into killing the other. Was it simply a bad relationship between them, or would one gain something if the other died?

"Grandmother... has been quite kind to me."

"Last night, if not for her, I might have—"

Before Ji Yan could finish, the Mother chuckled and shook her head. "Child, do you really believe that old hag cares for you?"

"She just wants to use your hand to kill me, your mother!"
