Chapter 16: Fuming with Anger

Chapter 16: Fuming with Anger

"Cheating on exams reflects a mentality of cutting corners, severely corrupting academic integrity and violating school regulations. If you rely on cheating to get first place without effort, you’ll eventually become dependent on it! An Wen, think carefully before answering the teachers." The English teacher’s expression turned stern as well.

"A student like this is useless no matter how good their grades are. I’ll just report to the principal and have her expelled according to school rules!" The Teaching Director waved his hand dismissively.

"Director, I’ve already said I didn’t cheat. How can you expel me based on conjecture without evidence?" An Wen replied calmly.

The Teaching Director slammed the table and stood up, pointing at An Wen sharply. "How dare you still claim you didn’t cheat!"

"Director, I genuinely didn’t cheat—why wouldn’t I dare say so? Or should I be expelled simply for being too smart?" An Wen delivered this line without batting an eye.

The Teaching Director’s veins bulged at his temples, and he nearly spat out a mouthful of blood in fury.

"An Wen, watch your tone with the director!" The Math Teacher, seeing the Teaching Director reaching his breaking point, quickly stepped in to mediate.

"Teacher, I really didn’t cheat. How about this—why don’t you find a set of senior-year science exam papers, preferably a difficult one, and let me take it again?" An Wen suggested.

"What did you say?" The Teaching Director took a step forward in shock, pointing at her but unable to form another word.

He had never encountered a student with such audacity.

"I said, have the teachers find a set of senior-year science exam papers, preferably a difficult one, and let me retake it." An Wen repeated the statement.

"An Wen…" The English Teacher began to speak, but An Wen cut her off.

"Teacher, since you don’t believe me, I have no choice but to prove my innocence myself."

"Fine!" The Teaching Director clutched his chest in anger and snapped, "If you score below 500, pack your bags and go home."

"But Director, what if I score above 500?" An Wen asked.

"If you score above 500, I’ll bow and apologize to you in front of all these teachers. Satisfied?"

"Deal. Though, honestly, it’s unnecessary—it’s understandable that normal people wouldn’t dare believe my knowledge base is this strong."

The subject teachers were left dumbfounded by her words.

Teaching Director: I think I’m about to spit out a mouthful of blood.

"Come to my office tomorrow for the exam. You may leave now!" The Teaching Director wore an expression that screamed this student is beyond redemption.

"Goodbye, Director. Goodbye, teachers." An Wen bowed politely to them before exiting the office.

On her way back to the classroom, An Wen noticed the strange looks people were giving her. As soon as she reached the door, she overheard her classmates discussing her alleged cheating.

"No wonder she could rank first after taking over half a month off—she was cheating all along."

"I actually admired how fast she finished the exam, but turns out she already knew the answers."

"Tang Rui and the others work so hard every day, only to be surpassed by a cheater. It’s just unfair."

"Our Rocket Class has no place for cheaters."

...

An Wen listened for a while before walking in. The moment she entered, the previously heated chatter died into complete silence.

The contrast was jarring.

Then, a female voice suddenly rang out, sounding utterly out of place.

"Shi Jing, you even went to borrow her test paper this morning to 'worship' it—no wonder she didn’t dare give it to you. If I had cheated like that, I’d feel guilty too."

The speaker was none other than the girl who had stood up for Shi Jing earlier. Her name was Zou Yingying, the class’s math representative.
