Chapter 54: Intimidation
Upon returning to the embassy, Yu Sheng’an suddenly stiffened as a thought struck him.
Was that little stunt really a good idea?
Would Aphnora fly into a rage out of humiliation because I sang her a love song?
He scratched his head, reasoning that a deity who had lived for centuries shouldn’t act on impulse.
But then again, she was a goddess… and also a woman.
Could a woman’s actions ever be measured by logic?
Damn it!
Yu Sheng’an smacked his forehead, realizing he might have gotten a bit too carried away.
He suddenly recalled the Greek myths from Blue Star, where the romantic escapades of Zeus, the king of gods, accounted for nearly half of the entire mythology.
It seemed absurd and unbelievable at first glance, but upon closer thought, it was actually quite realistic.
Deities without restraint would inevitably see their desires spiral out of control.
If mortal emperors could amass harems of three thousand beauties, how much more so for gods?
Using that as a mirror, had he grown arrogant?
Yu Sheng’an exhaled, reflecting on his actions.
Just as this thought crossed his mind, faint but growing clamor reached his ears from outside. Before he could even rise to investigate, the door was abruptly knocked upon.
“Come in!”
“Lord Ajef, the citizens of Vias have surrounded the embassy! They’re demanding… they’re demanding…”
As the door opened, Belock, the deputy envoy of the Kvelir delegation, stepped in with an odd mix of urgency and hesitation, stumbling over his words.
“Demanding what?”
“They’re saying… they want you to leave Vias.”
Belock phrased it delicately, his gaze at Ajef now completely altered.
He truly hadn’t expected the empire’s pride to dare sing a love song to the Music Goddess. Good heavens, she’s a deity!
By now, Belock’s explanation was hardly necessary—the uproar outside was already filtering in.
“Blasphemer! Get out of Vias!”
“Ajef, you’re not welcome here!”
“Go back to your Keville Empire!”
A torrent of curses and shouts poured in.
Yu Sheng’an’s expression darkened. Great. Aphnora isn’t the one provoked—it’s the citizens of Vias. What a mess.
He stood and walked to the window, peering through the carved frame. Beyond the embassy walls, a sea of people had gathered.
Further out, more were swarming in like an unending tide.
The sight was overwhelming—a dark, churning mass, like a swarm of insects.
Fists raised, voices roared in fury. At first, the shouts were chaotic, but soon they coalesced into a single, unified chant.
“Get out of Vias!”
Hearing the synchronized slogan, Yu Sheng’an’s face twisted in irritation.
Plans really never survive contact with reality.
He had assumed this trip to Vias would go smoothly.
Yet here he was, causing an uproar on the very first day.
Damn it, all because I couldn’t keep my mouth shut!
Yu Sheng’an stepped back from the window and turned to Belock. “What’s the embassy’s response?”
Sweat beaded on Belock’s forehead. “They’ve already sent someone to the city guard station for reinforcements.”
Yu Sheng’an nodded, then plopped back into his chair without another word.
“Lord Ajef, should we… do something?” Belock ventured cautiously.
“Like what? Summon a few giants to trample them into paste?” Yu Sheng’an rolled his eyes.
"Heh... M-my lord, you must be joking," Belock forced a smile, his heart pounding so hard it felt like it might leap out of his chest.
"Let’s wait. 'Messengers are not killed even in war between two states,' let alone when we’re not even at war yet! Let’s see how they react!"
Given the situation, Yu Sheng'an couldn’t intervene directly—after all, these were Aphnora’s subjects. Even when beating a dog, one must consider its master’s face!
Yet, at these words, Belock’s eyelids twitched uncontrollably.
Did you hear that? He actually used the word "war"! Oh, Lord Ajef, what kind of disaster are you courting?
For a moment, the room fell into complete silence.
Outside, however, the clamor only grew louder and more imposing with each shout!
A long time passed, yet the city guard station sent no one to disperse the crowd.
Belock grew frantic. He rushed to the window, his back drenched in cold sweat. "Lord Ajef, the guards at the gate won’t be able to hold them back much longer—they’re about to storm in!"
Yu Sheng'an sighed upon hearing this.
If Aphnora didn’t know what was happening here, he’d eat her whole from bottom to top.
Since she knew, with her divine power, stopping a public outrage should be as easy as flipping a hand.
Yet she feigned ignorance, silently allowing the situation to escalate.
What?
Did she really think he wouldn’t dare kill her people? Or that his blade wasn’t sharp enough?
Yu Sheng'an stood up and strode outside.
Seeing this, Belock hurried after him, inwardly groaning in despair.
Ajef’s infamous temper was well-documented in the Kvelir Empire. Though only one incident had occurred, his fearsome reputation was seared into the minds of the people of Willis.
He was genuinely afraid Lord Ajef might summon a giant in his rage and trample everyone outside into paste.
At that moment, outside the embassy, the crowd was furious.
The silence of the Kvelir Empire’s delegation had emboldened them, their shouts growing angrier and more unrestrained, as if they had entered a collective unconscious state.
Some even attempted to charge the embassy gates.
The guards stood at the entrance, torn between duty and loyalty—behind them was their obligation, before them were their fellow citizens. Whichever side they chose seemed wrong.
"Step aside! Are you even citizens of Vias?"
"Will you just stand by and watch our goddess be defiled?"
The crowd roared, and the guards wavered further.
Just as the gates were about to be breached, a soft chuckle rang in everyone’s ears.
"Heh, so this is the might of the citizens of the divine kingdom of Vias? Truly, 'a bully at home but a coward outside'!"
Whoosh!
One moment, the crowd was a roaring tempest.
The next, they fell into dead silence.
All eyes instinctively turned to the young man who had appeared at the embassy gates, their expressions flickering with uncertainty.
No one paused to wonder how that soft chuckle had reached each of their ears.
Nor did anyone realize their collective unconscious state had been shattered by a single laugh.
"Who is he?"
"That’s Ajef!"
Soon, the people of Vias recognized Yu Sheng'an, and the crowd erupted once more!
"What did you just say?"
"Who’s a coward outside?"
"Get out of Vias!"
The crowd hurled curses, but this time, their shouts were disjointed, lacking the unified force of their earlier chants.
Even those who had tried to rush the guards calmed down, realizing this was an official building, not some common residence.
"Silence!"
Yu Sheng'an roared in fury, his voice amplified by the divine spark within him, resounding like thunder that left the citizens of Vias with ringing ears and stunned minds.
"Calling you bullies in your own nest is already giving you face! Citizens of the Divine Kingdom on Earth? How impressive! Without Aphnora’s protection, what are you worth?!"
Yu Sheng'an’s furious words were followed by the sudden emergence of a colossal nine-zhang giant phantom behind him.
The giant stood like a pillar holding up the heavens, blotting out the evening sunlight over Vias and casting a dark shadow across the land!
The citizens of Vias gaped in terror, no longer able to utter their earlier chants of "Get out of Vias!"
Belock, the deputy envoy of the Kvelir delegation, paled in horror at the sight and instinctively cried out, "Lord Ajef, don’t act rashly!"
