Chapter 70: The Five Gods' Conference

After returning from the wilderness, Aphnora seemed as if she had experienced something indescribable—her mind was in a daze, her thoughts muddled.

Yu Sheng'an, on the other hand, looked like he hadn’t had enough and was even a little regretful.

First, the infrasound he had high hopes for had underwhelming experimental results. Whether it was ferocious beasts or beastmen, while they did show adverse reactions, the effects weren’t significant.

Yu Sheng'an guessed it might be because creatures in the multiversal world generally had stronger constitutions.

It was said that a tiger’s roar could scare its prey to death precisely because the sound contained infrasound.

In the multiversal world, ferocious beasts like tigers were everywhere, and all sorts of creatures had likely evolved some degree of resistance to infrasound. So, it was understandable that the effects were limited.

Still, even so, suddenly deploying it on the battlefield to achieve a "spell interruption" effect was still possible.

Second, the application of resonance was somewhat narrow. Yu Sheng'an found it difficult for resonance to break through magical defenses, and in this world, methods of magical defense were as numerous as the hairs on an ox.

Thus, this technique could only be used after breaking through defenses.

However, once the conditions were met, shaking a city to collapse would be child’s play—of course, provided one was willing to expend Source Essence.

Third, ultrasonic cutting was essentially flame cutting.

But due to the transmission characteristics of mechanical waves, it could serve as a long-range attack method. As long as one was willing to expend Source Essence, achieving laser cannon-like effects was entirely possible.

Finally, in Yu Sheng'an’s view, the most practical abilities were still "levitation flight" and "sonar detection."

Levitation flight needed no further explanation.

Sonar detection was highly suitable for battlefield use—it would be an entirely new detection method. As for how effective it would be, only actual combat testing could tell.

"I’ve got work to do. If I come up with any new abilities later, I’ll let you know," Yu Sheng'an said with a wave, preparing to leave.

"Wait, you… don’t want to learn divine music?" Aphnora tried to salvage her nearly shattered pride.

"Divine music? I’m not an eight-tailed jinchuriki, singing while fighting?" Yu Sheng'an gave her a strange look and waved dismissively. "No thanks!"

Aphnora’s expression froze, her fair face flushing crimson.

Her heart inexplicably filled with grievance!

Divine music, the Music Goddess’s most powerful strength, was being so casually dismissed—how could she not be furious? How could she not feel wronged?

But then she thought of the various abilities Yu Sheng'an had tested today.

Her anger faded.

She had held the Music Godhood for centuries, yet what had she truly mastered?

He had only held it for a few hours and had already discovered new abilities—more than one, at that.

The disparity was downright demoralizing.

Remembering how he had casually collapsed the castle she built with Earth Magic in the wilderness—that shock still lingered vividly in her mind.

It was foreseeable that as he grew more familiar with the Music Godhood, he might uncover even more powers.

This only made her feel more aggrieved.

Why?

Why had centuries of her research been surpassed by a god who had just obtained the divine spark?

It was so unfair!

"Wait!" Yu Sheng'an suddenly stopped and turned back. "Since you’re the Music Goddess, you must sing beautifully, right? Do you know a lot of songs?"

Suddenly reminded of her forte, Aphnora's petty grievances vanished in an instant. She raised her delicate chin with pride and said, "Of course!"

"Perfect! Let's go record some music!" Yu Sheng'an turned back, grabbed Aphnora's small hand, and pulled her along.

Aphnora's pretty face flushed red instantly.

H-he… how could he… how could he just grab my hand like that?

"Among the divine music you’ve composed, is there any particularly intense instrumental piece? The kind with a strong beat—boom, boom, boom? Even if it’s not exactly like that, something full of rhythm and percussion that makes people want to ride a husky into battle to save the world?"

"A husky?"

"Ah, never mind what a husky is. Just tell me, do you have that kind of music?"

"Why are you asking about this?"

"Think about it! Before battle, putting on headphones, playing my personal BGM, feeling my blood boil from the divine music, singing as I wield my sword to shatter the heavens—how exhilarating would that be?"

At this moment, the chuunibyou spirit buried deep in the heart of this old boy surged forth uncontrollably.

Aphnora stared blankly at Yu Sheng'an's impassioned display… then suddenly covered her mouth and giggled.

She realized that, at this moment, he was actually… a little cute!

"What are headphones? And what’s BGM?"

"Uh, that’s a bit complicated to explain. I’ll tell you slowly when we get back to my palace."

"Okay!"

The setting sun stretched their shadows long behind them. As they walked farther away, the shadows gradually shifted until they merged into one.

The sun had set.

Yet the lonely stone palace atop the Cordillera Mountains quietly lit up.

Passing between the two sword-wielding warrior statues at the entrance and pushing open the doors would surely shock any theological scholar!

Because inside the stone palace stood five statues—none other than the Five Great Righteous Gods of the Azarea Continent. This was nothing short of unbelievable!

After all, even righteous gods repel one another, ruling separately.

It’s unthinkable for a single palace to enshrine two deities, let alone five!

Now, these five statues had come to life, their forms rapidly gaining color. Like gargoyles, yet far more lifelike—as if truly alive.

"To discover traces of the Contract Godhood so quickly… it seems Tang En really did give it to a pig," rumbled the armored statue of the God of War, dust scattering as he turned.

"If a pig could convert the Keville Empire—which even we couldn’t erode—into a preaching zone within three months, then what does that make us? Insects?" The black-robed God of Death sneered.

"Stinking corpse, what are you implying?" The God of War roared.

"What do you think, madman?"

"Enough, stop arguing!"

"Could it be… Tang En isn’t dead?" The God of Life, appearing as an elderly man, ignored the quarrel and narrowed his eyes at the God of Death. "Were there any traces of Tang En's soul in the River of Death?"

"None. I searched almost the entire River of Death and found nothing. I suspect he never died," the God of Death shook his head.

"Tang En was a once-in-a-millennium magic prodigy of the Azarea Continent. A mere God of Magic who seized the Contract Godhood—I refuse to believe he’d die so easily!"

The Earth Mother Goddess, clad in a white robe, wore an icy expression. "Shouting such vulgar words before death, as if afraid we wouldn’t believe it—I say he faked his death to escape!"

The palace fell into silence.

As gods, they knew all too well that unless a god brought about their own demise, it was nearly impossible to kill one. The ambush of the God of Contracts was less a meticulously planned conspiracy and more a stroke of coincidence. It had only happened because the Earth Mother Goddess had inadvertently discovered his trail and, on a whim, pursued it.

"Whether he faked his death or not isn’t the real issue. What matters is that the Contract Godhood is no longer in Tang En’s possession," the God of Death interjected, pausing before explaining further.

"I manipulated a living soul to access the internet. Judging from the aura at its source, it was definitely not Tang En."

"Could it be that Tang En truly gave away his godhood?"

"That’s not impossible!"

"Exchanging godhood for survival was indeed the best choice at the time..."

"Without the godhood, the world has lost a God of Contracts but gained a God of Magic who once held divinity. With his abilities, it’s not impossible for him to seize a godhood again!"

"Honestly, I still don’t quite understand why Tang En traveled the domains in his true form. Someone who achieved the rank of God of Magic shouldn’t be so reckless."

"Perhaps it was a whim, or maybe he wanted to procreate offspring. Who knows the reason? Such things have happened before," the God of War shrugged, uninterested in pondering further.

"This isn’t the time to discuss Tang En," the God of the Sea said, pointing at the crystal ball. "What should we do about this Internet God?"

"Declare him a heretic and ban his divine techniques!" the God of War snapped without hesitation.

"He’s clever. The place where his divine techniques are spreading is the capital of the Keville Empire—beyond our jurisdiction," the God of Death remarked.

"Hmph, the Keville Empire has grown increasingly unruly. I say we take this opportunity to conquer it!" the God of War sneered.

Yet after his words, the hall remained silent for a long while.

If the Keville Empire were so easy to conquer, it would have been carved up long ago. Why would it still stand today?

"What, are you all afraid?" The God of War’s expression was cold and haughty.

As the only god without a large domain of his own yet still able to stand as an equal among the other four, he had every right to be arrogant.

"The Keville Empire must be conquered! The Conquest of Subdomains has already shown remarkable potential. We cannot allow it to grow unchecked," the God of Death suddenly agreed, despite his usual discord with the God of War.
